48 years since Dad came home and described the thump / earthquake he had heard in the basement office he works in on Finsbury Square, just a shortish distance from Moorgate Station.  Time passes, but some of those memories do not.

A day of extremes

- closure of a tiny line operated by one single carriage train and the first order for what became the largest main line class with 512 built (though there were 996 class 08 shunters)

- the utter disaster of Moorgate, and the awakening of many to concerns as to the environment
