Many thanks for the inputs ... biggest vote "staying at home" ... but half of you out for various reasons.   Let's see what we get for a similar poll for a weekend day in the new year.

I intend to run a similar poll for a Saturday, and one for a Sunday sometime in the New Year, once we're settled down and the holiday season is well behind us.   That way we can get comparative data which could (!) be used to inform.   Whether or not there's a train (and bus) service on 26th December is a relatively minor point as far as the TransWilts and the things we need to do is concerned, so I don't think Boxing Day trains should be my / our campaigning issue either way - too much risk of dilution of effort.   But were Santa to get out a 153 next 26th December and run it up and down from Swindon to Westbury and perhaps beyond, if I'm still in an active marketing role with the CRP at that point I would be marketing it to the hilt - not only for the actual people travelling that day but also as a tool to get "there's always a train when you want it" message out to people.

I didn't go to that one, I went to the seconds match as my brothers were both guest appearing for Falmouth whilst home for Christmas, one normally plays for Wyvern, the other some Welsh team.
The seconds result was Penryn 39- Falmouth 17.

Both results are as expected. Penryn being in the higher league for both 1st and 2nd team.

I went to school with Craig, even from the age of about 12 or 13 when I first knew him, he was always going to be a bus driver.

 
I would almost certainly have increased my pub options by getting the local bus into the city - no service today though.

 
3 options selected for me, all of which would/could usually be achieved by train, all today required the car (and hence no ale!) 

 
Staying at home... Well, sort of. We went out for a walk, which we didn't complete due to a lively herd of cows.

 

Thamesdown Transport are running a service today to/from Swindon town center and some of the more major retail establishments in the town (the Designer Outlet).

I'm whiling away the day at home before popping out for a few drinks with friends later.  Given the choice (and the right money) I'd quite happily offer my services at work - and I suspect many others would.

 
This year working, this has not happen that often in my working life.  Normally its a day visiting local relatives

 
On the transport front I've noticed there seems to be a lot of preserved buses operating free services today in place of normal operators.

Their passenger numbers I guess could evidence to whoever decides whether to operate a service for evidence To support a service on Boxing Day or not.

 

Thanks, Ollie ... if we were doing research and looking for information to see what cases were to be made or not made for the future, that's exactly what I would want to know - but for such research I would need to ask a whole series of questions and would probably have gone for survey monkey or similar.   There would be logic for such a survey to include both Christmas and Boxing days, and to ask people whether they would have done something different if public transport had been available, and whether they simply shifted any travel plans that required public transport to nearby days, or didn't do whatever it was.  Questions on cost of tickets and on travel patterns (to add some sort of quantity to any suggestions) would also be needed.

As it stands, the results will be think - not a major survey - but may help inform views should anyone say "they're looking at future Xmas train services - do you think Boxing day ones would be used?"  And - make no mistake - if I was informed that a useful TransWilts service was running on one (or even both) of the two currently-closed days and if I were still Press and Publicity for the CRP, I would be making good use of the marketing opportunity to help bring more convenience and pleasure to the people who could make good use of it

 
I will first be travelling from one relative to another. Arriving at Sister's for lunch. There will probably be an hour or so shopping, and I'll no doubt take the nephews out at some point.

 
I will be driving to Eastbourne to see some family.

- not sure if worth noting, but I always drive to Eastbourne, so the fact there are no trains where I live doesn't make a difference... if anything the lack of trains is the reason I can go - as I do not need to work!

 
I will go to falmouth vs Penryn rugby if it's dry. If it's wet I'll do stuff round the house.

 
I'll go for a ride on my bike - if the weather's good, and if I can get a pass out. Might swing by Cattle Market Road and see how Temple Meads looks without the Mail Conveyor!

 
We have discussed (as we do most years) whether there should be trains on 26th December.   I've started this poll to see what people did / will actually be doing - allowing up to 4 answers if you're doing multiple things.  Let's learn about the starting point ... and I'm starting with the vote "I'm working" ... we're a 365 day business, and I've had Christmas day off, unusually, for the first time for years.
